France’s most visited private historic monument! Built and redeveloped throughout its history by women with well-marked temperaments, the castle of Chenonceau was built by Katherine Briçonnet in 1513.
It was inhabited by Great Ladies, who each, in turn, embellished it, enlarged it. The beautiful Diana de Poitiers (1547 to 1559) Catherine de Medici (1560 to 1589), the favorite place of recollection of the White Queen Louise De La Lorraine (1589 to 1601), and was preserved by Louise Dupin (1733 to 1799) during this troubled period of the Revolution and metamorphosis with Madame Pelouze (1864-1888).
Nicknamed the “Ladies Castle”, because this feminine imprint is present everywhere, perceiving it from conflicts and wars to make it always, a place of peace.
