The National Pablo Picasso Museum, inaugurated in 1985 by the President of the Republic François Mitterrand in the heart of the Marais district, is entirely dedicated to the extraordinary collection of the Spanish painter’s works.
It hosts the world’s richest collection of works by the artist, covering all its periods.
At his death, Picasso left about 40,000 works. His personal collection, formed during his lifetime, brought together his own works, but also those of friends (Braque, Matisse, Miro, Derain…), and great masters whom he admired (Cézanne, Le Douanier Rousseau, Degas, Le Nain…) and primate work.
This collection was donated to the French state in 1978 to be presented at the Louvre Museum. It has naturally joined The National Pablo Picasso Museum fund.
